HOBAS PIPES AS A TOKEN OF RESPECT FOR THE ENVIRONMENT: GUARANTY
FOR THE REDUCTION OF WATER LOSS AND ENERGY CONSUMPTION IN WATER SUPPLY

RAW MATERIALS
Centrifugal casting of GRP pipes is a flexible process and different
types of resins and glass can be used within a pipe. We use E-glass
and isophtalic resins and with those we meet the strain corrosion requirements
of any national standard. Vinylester resins or epoxy liners are used
for special applications. We incorporate silica sand as an aggregate
in the pipe wall and this is an excellent material when the process
permits a controlled distribution to ensure that the sand-rich layers
are in the neutral axis of the pipe wall. In Europe and in some other
countries, we use calcium carbonate as filler and this material will
neutralise any acid, which mechanically penetrates into the pipe wall.
In case of any water diffusion, Ca2+ ions will be formed, preventing
the ion exchange at the surface of the glass reinforcement. There is
no reduction in fibre strength due to ion exchange which otherwise could
take place during long-term exposure.
PRODUCT AVAILABILITY
The Hobas pipes are currently manufactured from DN 150 up to DN 2800
in pressure classes up to 35 bar. Any stiffness class can be produced.
The common stiffness classes for buried applications are SN 5 000 and
SN 10 000 but we have designed pipes with stiffness classes up to SN
200 000 for jacking applications.
A full range of fittings is produced out of GRP pipes, with the same
pressure and stiffness class as those used in the line. In Europe we
do complete sewer systems including manholes out of GRP. These sewer
lines are airtight to ensure that no infiltration or exfiltration occurs.
The standard couplings have a full face EPDM rubber membrane that gives
a tight seal against both internal pressure and vacuum on the smooth
outer surface of the pipe. Couplings for special applications like pipe
jacking, slip lining etc. are produced which are flush with the outer
surface of the pipe.
Three series of pipes are produced with different outside diameters.
Series 1 corresponds to the GRP standard ISO 7370. Series 2 is compatible
with the outside diameter of DI pipes according to ISO 2531 and Series
3 is compatible with PVC pipes according to ISO 3606.
MANUFACTURING STANDARDS
Hobas pipes are manufactured at various locations throughout the world
and comply with many national and international standards including
the following:
