RESEARCHES ON THE REDUCTION OF ACID POLLUTION
S.E. NISIPEANU, INCDPM Romania
SUMMARY
The researches aimed at the development of a technology for the reduction
of the acid pollution generated by nitrogen oxides that, with low costs,
can provide an efficient neutralization with no transfer of polluting
agents to other environment factors and with the possibility of using
the by-products.
The research objective was the neutralization of acid emissions of
nitrogen oxides resulted from:
The laboratory experimental study included researches on the absorption
of the nitrogen oxides in the solution of sodium hypo -chlorite in sodium
hydroxide and in urea solution in nitric acid.
The operation requirements to obtain a maximum absorption degree that
would allow the reduction of emissions below the admitted values were
settled.
The applications of neutralization by absorption in liquid system of
nitrogen oxides were developed in industrial conditions in a pilot absorption
three-step column for which a patent was issued.
The experimental results revealed the performance of the developed
technology on the neutralization of nitrogen oxides in the absorption
solution of sodium hypo-chlorite in sodium hydroxide (absorption degree
of 93%) and urea in nitric acid (absorption degree above 95%).
Neutralization by absorption in liquid system can be an effective solution
for the reduction of atmospheric pollution with acid contaminants exhausted
from industrial processes.
