SELECTA: development of a system for pre-collection, collection and selective transport of household waste and the optimization of treatment methods for the generated materials

The Project SELECTA is implemented in the City of Pitesti; for a period of 30 months (1999 - 2002) there will be a pilot action for selective pre-collection of household waste in multi-family (vertical) buildings, together with actions aiming at the improvement of transport, storage and processing of selected materials, supported by concrete examples which are stimulating the citizens, local authorities and enterprises mobilization.

PREMIERE IN ROMANIA

The project is proposing:

1. IN TERMS OF procedURE : an integrated system including all actions from the pre-collection to the design and development of treatment systems for selected materials (premiere in Romania: for the first time a city is deciding to adopt a selective pre-collection system and to generalize it).

2. IN TERMS OF TECHNOLOGIES:

a) TRIVERT system (INNO.V.E.R.T., France) : a simple, clean, quick and effortless innovative technology for waste source separation, located at every floor of the building;

b) Guichet Auto-triant" (INNO.V.E.R.T., France) : an innovative technology for selection of the different types of household waste at the ground floor, without energy consumption and with very good precision;

c) Composting system (Kompostinnovation AB, Sweden): an innovative technology of quick degradation over 4-6 weeks.

LOCAL Organisation

For the implementation of this project, Pitesti City Hall set up a Local Initiative Group formed by representatives of all population categories of the city.

European cooperation

The know-how transfer is achieved by a close French-Romanian partnership , functioning at all levels: choice of the innovative equipment, buildings arrangement, transport modernization, waste stream study and designing of the waste treatment systems, direct investments in waste-related industry and the necessary communication system.
