OFFICIAL CLOSURE (transcript of recordings)

“We can now conclude the four days of the Romanian Environmental
Forum; during these days we became familiar with the most important
international programs in the field of the environment protection, ongoing
or completed projects, generally speaking with programs financed by
international institutions having a Romanian contribution as well. We
also became familiar with the latest techniques in the field of environment
protection, in waste control, water and atmosphere protection.
I want to invite my colleague, Mr. Ovidiu Romosan, to draw a conclusion
to the Romanian Transport Forum; this way we can end both sections.”
Mr Ovidiu Romosan
“We consider that the Romanian Transport Forum objectives,
maybe not very ambitious being the first event of this kind, have been
reached and we believe that a solid foundation has been laid for the
organization of future fora in this field. There has been a fruitful
exchange of information between authorities, transport operators, Romanian
and foreign consulting companies, with the continuous participation
of the civil society which signaled the transport degradation elements
and the delays in some areas. At the same time, the civil society also
noticed the progress that has been made in point of infrastructure,
which is very important because it stimulates activities and horizontal
industries, and creates new jobs. It was pointed out that market economy
principles start to be perceived in all the types of transport, even
in urban public transport where significant efforts are made to reduce
pressure on the budget by marketing techniques.
The last meeting today was an innovation; a mirror conference presented
first by the Transport Federation in Italy, ATAC Company from Rome which
is the homologue of RATB in the roman city and FIT Consulting Company;
we had a chance to hear about similar problems with different levels
of priority and specific methods of approach. It has been decided to
conclude a co-operation agreement between the Autonomous Transport Administration
of Bucharest and ATAC in Rome targeting mainly a mutual support in the
participation to European projects. Another subject of discussion was
the inter-modality principle and the need to combine transport with
freight railway transport. I noticed that during these days foreign
credits were obtained, which will certainly stimulate some transport
areas like intercity transport and urban transport. I also noticed that
the Romanian consulting activity starts to develop; new telematics technologies
are gaining ground; the presence of the company Intelligent Transport
System Romania had a catalytic role in promoting a network of companies
interested in integrated telematic solutions that can offer both increased
efficiency and lower costs. We have heard about modern navigation systems
that are no longer science fiction but begin to be applied mainly in
urban vehicles and freight transport monitoring; such an activity could
bring us back to a lost principle in freight and passenger transport,
namely Door-to-Door Transport.
These are a few conclusions of the event ending today; of course, the
Transport Forum Book will include all this and many other interesting
things. Thank you.”
